NAPLES — Opera Naples, like many first-time homebuyers this year, has taken advantage of the market to snare its own administrative and activities base, a 10,000-square-foot commercial space in East Naples.
It’s not the grand-opera performance center the four-year-old company is planning to have eventually, according to Founding Director Steffanie Pearce. However, the space at 2408 Linwood Ave. will allow it to create and store sets and costumes, rehearse for productions and even stage some workshop operas.
The space is part of a commercial “condominium” building, of which Opera Naples will own 25 of the 29 condos. The remaining four condos house the English Pub, a familiar dining landmark.
The Opera Naples space will be used for:
- Set and costume construction and storage
- Rehearsal space with room for as many as 100 musicians and singers
- Performance of children’s and experimental operas for an audience capacity of 225
- Educational classrooms
- Administrative offices
TO BE HELD
Opera Naples will be holdiing auditions for roles in the upcoming 2009-2010 Season productions, Educational Outreach activities and positions in the chorus.
Additionally, ON is looking for houng singers, ages 9-18 to be cast in the roles of the Three Spirits in The Magic Flute, as well as to be involved in ON's student Apprentice Program.
Auditions will be held September 12, 2009 10am-4pm by appointment at the North Naples United Methodist Church in the Village Chapel.
Requirements:
For chorus: one piece in any language.
For any other considerations bring at least three prepared pieces in varying languages, a resume and a head shot.
